Plan your international arrival at Gimhae Airport with routes to Seomyeon, Nampo, Gwangalli, Haeundae and Gijang. Compare rail transfers, limousine and city buses, transit cards, luggage and late arrivals.
Information checked: 2026-10-21
1. Choose your hotel area before choosing transport
After an international arrival at Gimhae Airport, start by comparing light rail plus the subway for a lighter load, an airport limousine for a hotel near its stops, and a taxi for substantial luggage or a late arrival. City bus 307 and express city bus 3003 offer other routes, with different stops, fares and luggage conditions.
“Downtown Busan” is not a single destination. Seomyeon, Busan Station, Nampo, Gwangalli, Haeundae and Gijang require different onward journeys. Save your hotel’s Korean name, street address and map pin. Search from the time you can leave after immigration, baggage claim and customs, rather than your scheduled landing time.
| Option | When to compare it | What affects the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Light rail + subway | Manageable luggage; avoiding road congestion | Accepted transit card, transfer walking and elevators, a complete last-train connection |
| Airport limousine | A hotel near a Seomyeon–Bujeon or Haeundae–Gijang stop | Adult one-way fare of KRW 6,000 or 9,500, payment and the actual service endpoint |
| City or express city bus | A useful 307 or 3003 stop and suitable luggage | Route-specific fare, direction, exact stop and baggage rules |
| Taxi | A group, substantial luggage, late arrival or difficult transfers | Meter, tolls, nighttime charges, passenger and trunk capacity |
Limousine fares and stops were checked against Korea Airports Corporation’s bus guidance and the operator’s fare table, in Korean. Unless stated otherwise, fares are per adult; a taxi fare is per vehicle. Prices are in Korean won, not US dollars.
2. Find the international terminal’s ground-floor boarding area
International arrivals are on 1F, the ground floor. Open the airport’s official transport page and select 국제선, meaning international terminal, to see its actual layout. The diagram labels bus bay 2 for city buses, bay 3 for limousines and the taxi stand across the roadway. Follow current signs and staff directions and use marked crossings. A numbered terminal door and a numbered bus bay are different things.
For rail, follow Light Rail / 경전철 / Airport station (공항) signs to the station outside the terminal. This is not a subway platform beneath the arrivals hall. Check the elevator route with luggage; do not apply domestic-terminal door instructions to your international arrival.
3. Light rail and subway: change at Sasang for Line 2
At Airport station, board the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail train toward Sasang. At Sasang, follow the transfer signs for Busan Subway Line 2 toward Jangsan for Seomyeon, Gwangan, Centum City and Haeundae. For Busan Station, Nampo or Jagalchi, change again at Seomyeon to Line 1 toward Dadaepo Beach. Daejeo connects light rail with Line 3; compare that alternative for destinations such as Gupo. Airport rail guide, official subway route search
Use the same accepted transit card at the gates and follow the transfer signs. Changing at Sasang involves walking between the light rail and subway. Without a card, buy the appropriate single-use ticket for each operator and destination. A light-rail single-use ticket does not automatically cover the subway.
| Published adult fare | Transit card | Single-use ticket |
|---|---|---|
| Light rail, section 1 / section 2 | KRW 1,600 / 1,800 | KRW 1,700 / 1,900 |
| Busan Subway, section 1 / section 2 | KRW 1,600 / 1,800 | QR ticket: KRW 1,700 / 1,900 |
These are each operator’s fare categories, not two charges that should automatically be added for an airport-to-hotel trip. With an accepted card and an eligible transfer, the system applies the highest applicable fare and any required difference. The former KRW 500 adult regional transfer surcharge was abolished on September 19, 2025. Do not add it from an older guide. Check the fare for your actual destination, distance and accepted transfer. Light-rail fares and transfer rules, subway fares, in Korean.
4. Buses: distinguish the limousine from 307 and 3003
Airport limousines use international terminal 1F, bay 3. The adult one-way fare is KRW 6,000 to Seomyeon–Bujeon or KRW 9,500 on the Haeundae–Gijang route. The airport’s English page specifies credit-card payment; the Korean details say cash is not accepted. Do not assume stored transit-card value pays for every limousine. Confirm your card, boarding or ticketing method and a backup payment option before relying on the service.
- Seomyeon–Bujeon: Compare the operator's actual stops, including Jurye, Dong-eui University, Seomyeon/Lotte Department Store and Bujeon Market, with your hotel.
- Haeundae–Gijang: Stops include Centum City, BEXCO, Dongbaek Island entrance, Haeundae Beach and Jangsan. Some services terminate at Jangsan and do not continue to Gijang. For Osiria or coastal resorts, check that particular departure's endpoint and stop. The route name does not promise a stop at Haedong Yonggungsa's entrance.
The operator’s international-terminal departure selection currently displays a Seomyeon–Bujeon range of 07:20–21:30 and a Haeundae range of 07:10–21:40. These are published timetable limits checked for this article, not guaranteed daily operation, seats or Gijang extensions. Departures are not uniformly spaced. Consult the departure timetable and stop list, in Korean, before travel. The operator also links to Bustago reservations; overseas-card, guest-booking and verification conditions require checking in the actual booking flow.
Other buses use international terminal 1F, bay 2:
| Route | Destination to compare | Published adult fare |
|---|---|---|
| City bus 307 | Centum, BEXCO and Haeundae; many intermediate stops | Transit card KRW 1,550 / cash KRW 1,700 |
| Express city bus 3003 | Jagalchi and Taejongdae direction | Transit card KRW 2,100 / cash KRW 2,200 |
A bus traveling through Yeongdo does not necessarily stop at every attraction, including Huinnyeoul Culture Village. Check the exact stop, direction and day’s service in the airport route details and Busan bus information, in Korean. Some 307 departure times on the airport page are explicitly for the domestic terminal; do not treat those as international-terminal departure times.
Check large luggage before choosing a city bus. The airport’s 307 details state a per-person limit of 20 kg and 50 × 40 × 20 cm. A city notice allowed one suitcase up to 30 inches on 307 during a trial July 1–September 30, 2026. That dated trial is not evidence that the exception still applies after its end date. If you cannot confirm current acceptance, compare a limousine with confirmed luggage-bay space or a taxi large enough for your bags. Busan’s trial notice, in English.

5. Connect the airport route to your actual attraction
| Destination | Rail connection to compare | Check the final leg |
|---|---|---|
| Seomyeon and Bujeon | Airport → Sasang → Line 2 Seomyeon; continue as needed | Bujeon’s Line 1 and Donghae Line stations are distinct |
| Busan Station, Nampo, Jagalchi | Line 2 to Seomyeon → Line 1 | An onward KTX train requires its own ticket and connection allowance |
| Gwangalli Beach | Line 2 to Gwangan or Geumnyeonsan, as appropriate | Choose by the hotel’s actual side of the beach and walking route |
| Centum and Haeundae | Line 2 to Centum City, BEXCO, Haeundae or another suitable station | Haeundae and Donghae Line Shin-Haeundae are different stations |
| Gamcheon Culture Village | Line 1 Toseong, then a village bus or taxi | Hills, stairs, luggage storage and the order of sightseeing |
| Songdo Beach and cable car | Line 1 Jagalchi, then bus or taxi | Beach and cable-car boarding addresses differ |
| Taejongdae and Yeongdo | Check 3003 stops, or connect by bus/taxi from Nampo | Different Yeongdo sights require different stops |
| Osiria, Haedong Yonggungsa and Gijang | Compare a Donghae Line transfer at BEXCO with a Gijang-bound limousine | An onward local journey may remain after the rail or limousine stop |
Visit Busan’s Gamcheon example uses Toseong exit 6 → Pusan National University Hospital bus stop → village bus Saha-gu 1-1, Seo-gu 2 or Seo-gu 2-2. Its Songdo guidance connects from Jagalchi by city bus. The Yonggungsa itinerary also requires a final connection, such as bus 139 from Osiria station. Check current bus information against tourism directions. Reaching the rail station is not the same as reaching the attraction; dropping luggage at your hotel first may make the journey easier. Gamcheon connections, Songdo, Yonggungsa connections, in Korean.
6. Taxis: the starting fare is not your hotel fare
Use the official international-terminal taxi stand and show your Korean hotel address, passenger count and number of bags. A standard medium taxi starts at KRW 4,800 for 2 km, then adds metered distance and low-speed time charges. The nighttime surcharge on the relevant portion of the journey is 20% from 23:00–24:00 and 02:00–04:00, and 30% from 00:00–02:00. Tolls and vehicle type also affect the total. Busan’s official taxi fare rules, in Korean.
The airport publishes illustrative driving times of about 45 minutes to Seomyeon, 60 to Nampo and 70 to Haeundae. These are traffic-dependent references, not confirmed hotel arrival times or flat-price quotes. Airport taxi guide, in Korean.
Gimhae Airport is in Gangseo-gu, Busan. Its name does not itself mean every trip into Busan carries an out-of-area surcharge. Check the actual operating boundary and fare category. For a group, compare per-person transit fares multiplied by your group size with the total vehicle fare, while allowing for trunk space: your passengers and suitcases may not fit into one ordinary taxi. Confirm card acceptance before boarding and obtain a receipt; no particular foreign or transit card is guaranteed to work in every reader.
7. Buy, reload and use a Korean transit card
A compatible prepaid Korean transit card, such as Tmoney, can be used on Busan’s light rail, subway and supported city buses. Check an existing card before buying another for a new city. Do not assume a US contactless bank card, Japan’s Suica/PASMO or Taiwan’s EasyCard works as a Korean transit card. Bank-card payment and stored transit value are separate functions.
- At a participating convenience store or other seller, confirm the card price separately from the amount loaded. Airport-shop hours and stock need checking on arrival.
- Bring Korean-won cash for an ordinary physical Tmoney reload. Being able to pay for a card or a separate product by foreign bank card does not guarantee you can reload standard Tmoney value that way. Combined payment/transit cards can also have separate balances.
- Use one card per traveler and tap the same card at rail gates and when boarding and leaving buses. Keep sufficient value and avoid presenting multiple cards together.
- The light-rail operator's regional rules require boarding the next vehicle within 30 minutes of leaving the previous one, with up to two transfers, three rides total. Do not assume cash, separate single-use tickets or airport limousines get the same benefit. The official table also excludes transfers between the Donghae Line and Gimhae/Yangsan transport.
Child, teen and resident concession categories can require registration or proof; adult fares here do not establish eligibility for a visiting family. Tmoney’s visitor information, Korea Tourism Organization’s payment guide, regional transfer rules (Korean).
For purchase, reload, refund and product differences, continue to our Korea transit-card guide. Mobile products have their own device, enrollment, identity-verification and payment requirements. Visitors without a Korean phone number or domestic account should not be told that installing an app alone resolves those requirements.
8. Plan a late-arrival fallback and your return journey
Catching the last light-rail train does not guarantee a subway connection to your hotel. Line 2 at Sasang or Line 1 at Seomyeon may finish earlier than your transfer. Check the light-rail first/last-train page together with Busan Subway’s station timetable. The light-rail overview displays an old revision date, so this article does not promise a successful connection at a specific late-night time. If the full route is uncertain, plan for the official taxi stand or confirmed operating accommodation.
- Have you saved the correct arrival terminal and Korean hotel address?
- Have you checked today's international-terminal departure, direction and endpoint?
- Do luggage size, bag count, elevator access and the final walk suit the journey?
- Have you prepared transit value and separate limousine/taxi payment options?
- For departure, have you allowed for international check-in, the reverse-direction stop, first services and road conditions?
